• What is FOB Terms? Literally translated as FREE (free) + ON (~on) + BOARD (a side of the ship) in English, the combined meaning is that once the exporter produces the goods and places them 'on a side of the ship' (leaves them freely), their duty is finished. Interpreted in terms of Incoterms, it means that the duty is over when the goods are left 'on a side of the ship'.

Therefore, the import company is allocated the duty (strictly when the goods are loaded onto the ship) to manage the transportation from the exporter's port. In other words, the importer must take responsibility for the transportation and import of the goods from the export port. At this time, the task is entrusted to a forwarder (international logistics broker) like Shipda.

The import costs are mainly composed of 'product cost/logistics cost/duties and taxes'. If agreed upon under FOB terms, the following information should be inquired from the 'exporter (seller)' and delivered to the 'forwarder' to calculate logistics costs.

Volume/weight/quantity of packaged cargo: 100*50*50cm, 20kg - 1BOX, total 15BOXES

Item name: Clothing

Domestic transit port name: Incheon Port

Final destination domestic address: 6 Jongno, Jongno-gu, Seoul, 5th Floor, SellerNote Co., Ltd.

[STEP 1] Country/Type/Port of Origin

(1) Country of Origin: Since you're importing goods from China, select 'China' as the 'country of origin'.

(2) Type of Origin: Under FOB conditions, select 'port' since the task is entrusted to Shipda from the export port.

(3) Port of Origin: Choose the 'Shanghai port' assumed in the example.

※ As for the port of origin, select the port commonly used by the exporter after inquiring. After asking the exporter for the overseas shipping address, check the nearest port on Google Maps, and search/select accordingly. (Shipda will confirm the shipping address afterward and correct it to the optimal port.)

[STEP 2] Type/Address of Destination

(1) Destination Selection: If you only want to request up to the domestic port, select 'port'; for requesting transportation to the final destination, select 'inland'. (In this case, assume the request is up to the final destination.)

(2) Destination Address (City/County/District): Search for the destination at the city/county/district level.

(3) Detailed Address: Enter the detailed address below the city/county/district level.

(4) Transit Port: Select the transit port. Choose the one closest to the final destination.

[STEP 3] Cargo Information/Inland Transportation Type/Checkpoints/Requirements

(1) How to Enter Cargo Information: Divided into by package and total volume/weight. Confirm this information with the exporter. Exporters may provide information on the volume/weight per individual box or the total volume/weight of individual boxes.

• Enter by Package: If informed of the volume/weight per individual box, choose package entry.
• Enter Total Volume/Weight: If informed of the total volume/weight of individual boxes, choose total volume/weight entry.

Under FOB conditions, it is okay to enter the information using either method that is more convenient for you.

(2) Product Name: Enter the name of the product you are importing.

(3) Packaging Type: Select the form in which the product is packaged. It is usually processed in boxes or pallets.

(4) Volume: Enter the volume of each individual box as length*width*height.

(5) Weight: Enter the weight of each individual box.

(6) Packaging Quantity: Enter the quantity of each individual box.

(7) Hazardous Material: Select whether the cargo is hazardous material. If you are unsure whether the goods you are importing are hazardous, select 'No'.

(8) Two-Way Stack: Indicates whether it is permissible to load 'other cargo' on top of your packaged cargo. Generally, 'Yes' is allowed. If it is a fragile item, select 'No'.

(1) Type of Inland Transportation: The lowest-cost transportation fit for the volume/weight you entered is automatically selected.

(2) Checkpoints: Entered with the standard values proposed by Shipda and cannot be changed.

(3) Request for Customs Clearance Business: If a 'customs agent' is not specifically designated for import customs clearance, the job is processed through Shipda’s partner customs broker.

(4) Cargo Insurance Subscription: Apply if insurance subscription is required.

(5) FTA Certificate of Origin Issuance: If the exporter is having difficulty issuing the FTA C/O, request Shipda for assistance.

[STEP 4] Quote Confirmation/Check for Precautions/Task Assignment

(1) Agreement: Check the quote and acknowledge the precautions, then click the check box. For FOB terms, the system provides instant confirmed quote retrieval.

(2) Download Detailed Quote: Review costs in a quote format.

(3) Ticket Issuance: Proceed with the task assignment.

[STEP 5] Exporter Information Input

Retrieve and input information for Shipda 'forwarder' to contact the exporter and handle transportation processing.

※ Note: You must enter information for the overseas exporter (seller), not the importer (buyer).

(1) Load: If there is a history with the same exporter, you can easily input through load.

(2) Complete: Once all information is entered, click the complete button.
