Today, we would like to check how the import process flows when proceeding with containerless imports. There is a significant difference between proceeding with import trade knowing the process and not, so please make sure to understand it well:)

To proceed with maritime transport by container unit, you need to check logistics costs from a forwarder and place an order. An international logistics broker, known as a FORWARDER, acts to optimize various logistics infrastructures needed in the import process. In the process of importing by container sea freight, you will encounter the term FCL. Let's look at the meaning of FCL in detail. It stands for Full Container Loaded, which is a mode of transportation used when an import company 'uses a single container independently'. The term for transporting small cargo is called LCL and means that multiple import companies share one container.

First, when the exporter (seller) has finished preparing the freight, the importer consults the exporter on which container type/size to proceed with. Once you receive a response, check the quotation using the information on the 'SHIPDA' website. (* URL: www.ship-da.com/realtime) After accepting the confirmed quotation from SHIPDA, enter the exporter information on the website. 'SHIPDA', who reviews the details, will contact the 'exporter' based on the entered information and proceed with a shipping booking (reservation) at the shipping company.

Once the shipping reservation is complete (booking approval) at the shipping company, a 'Empty container' is sent to the exporter to load the goods to be imported. Then, the goods are loaded at the exporter's factory. *Recently, certain struggles with completing shipping reservations (booking approval) due to the logistics crisis, it might be better to pre-book 1-2 weeks in advance, if possible.

Once the goods are loaded into the empty container, they must be brought to the port of export. At the port, there are deadlines called 'Document / Cargo Closing' when entering the container. For 'Document Closure', documents must be submitted to the shipping company/export customs, and the closure is processed when the documents match each other. 'Cargo Closure' is processed when the container is brought into the container yard (CY) according to the scheduled time. All of these are handled by the 'exporter' and 'forwarder'.

Once the container sails without issue and a certain amount of time has passed, it arrives at a specific port in Korea. Then, the importer settles the logistics costs according to the estimate provided in advance by SHIPDA. After that, the forwarder instructs import customs clearance according to the schedule requested by the importer. (*If you have a customs broker, instruct them on import customs clearance. If you do not have a separate customs broker, you can use SHIPDA's partner customs broker.)

After the import customs declaration is made, if there are no further issues, the container will be transported to the predetermined final destination. Once you receive the goods, the FCL (container) import transportation process is complete.
