Things to Know When Importing Refrigerated/Frozen Cargo by Sea/Air
Hello:) Digital Import Logistics Forwarding Service - SHIPDA here.
In this content, we will explore important considerations when importing goods that need to be kept 'refrigerated/frozen'.

In the case of importing general types of cargo by sea, it is common to use a 'DRY Container'. As the cargo is transported in a dry state, the temperature inside the container can change with the outside temperature. Therefore, goods that need to be kept refrigerated/frozen should be loaded into a special container called an 'RF container'.

Let's consider an example of importing chocolate from Belgium.

As mentioned above, when importing 'refrigerated/frozen cargo' by sea, it is processed using a Reefer container. If the import is in small amounts, then sea import methods are limited due to different temperature requirements for each small cargo. If the shipped items are the same, then sea LCL import methods may be applicable.
For example, in Italy, where wine is primarily imported, or Belgium, where chocolate is mainly imported, sea LCL is possible. However, you need to find a logistics company that can handle this. (In the case of SHIPDA, the sea LCL is possible on specific days for the Italian region, limited to wine/cheese.) Due to these reasons, most small cargoes are handled by air transport.

When requesting refrigerated/frozen import transportation from SHIPDA (Forwarder), you need to provide additional information besides 'product name/location'. This information is the necessary 'temperature information'.
The information on 'how to maintain the minimum to maximum temperature' is essential. When you request from SHIPDA, you can provide the temperature information to the assigned representative after the online request:)
